In 2009 I walked the first 100 miles of the Pennine Bridleway, from my home in Derbyshire to Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. I took a pony that we owned at the time, as a pack pony to carry my camping gear. Whilst I really enjoyed this and felt a great sense of achievement when I reached my goal, I have always regretted that I did not use the opportunity to raise some funds for charity.
Now, nine years, one heart attack and five stents later, I feel ready for the next stage of the journey which will enable me to walk the full distance of the completed National Trail and I am determined to try to raise some money for the charities that are close to my family’s hearts. This time, I am taking a young harness pony of ours. We have broken Max to harness over the past few months and I hope that this trip will give him some valuable experience, helping to mould him in to a reliable pony to compete in carriage driving competitions in the future. I will start out from Hebden Bridge on 10 August and I aim to walk the 100 mile journey to Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria by 16 August. I will be camping along the way and Max will carry my camping gear, food and cooking utensils. More information about the route can be found on the National Trails Website.
My target is to raise £1,500 by doing the Trek, with 50% of the funds raised being donated to St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation and the other 50% being divided by the following charities:
- British Heart Foundation
- Cancer Research
- Leuka – Leading Leukaemia Research
- Derbyshire & Rutland Air Ambulance
- Rotary Club of Ripley
The St. James’s Place Charitable foundation will administer the funds I raise and pay them across to the charities I have chosen to support. St. James’s Place will match the funds raised so that all the charities will really benefit from my efforts.
Please help me to raise as much as possible by visiting my JustGiving page at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Alan-Beverley
Alternatively, you can send a cheque payable to the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation, to my office address above.
I fully appreciate that you may have charities that are close to your own hearts but all donations, no matter how small, will be gratefully received.
